My current project is examining the interactions between cotton plants, endophytic fungi and nematodes. Two major nematodes, reniform and root knot nematodes, are the focus of my work. I have helped isolate and identify candidate cotton endophytic fungi that may act as antagonists against nematodes from cotton plants in Texas. Experiments will focus on the interactions between cotton-endophyte-nematode interactions in both the laboratory and field. My work will help expand our knowledge of the role of microbes in multi-trophic level interactions while helping to provide environmentally benign tools for nematode management.
